Many recent digital cameras take pictures with very high quality and large dimensions. But sometimes that comes at a cost. A high quality picture or one with larger width/height has a larger file size than one that is smaller or of lower quality.
This is often only a problem if you want to email the picture or upload it to a website, like ours.
For these reasons it is useful to be able to use picture resizing tools. Tthere are many to choose from, both free and commercial, complex and simple.
Most of these tools will allow you to convert (or save a copy, which is better if you want to keep an unmodified original), or save a picture at several different sizes. Some will also make it easy to edit things like red-eye and overexposure.
One of the best and easiest to use currently, and also free, is Picasa. Created by Google, it is primarily a picture organiser, but it allows you to select one or more pictures and export to a new folder at a different size. (Look for the 'export' button on the bottom right).

Another, smaller tool is pixResizer which, as its name implies does one job - resizing pictures.
It has a simple 4-step process where you can select from a series of sizes, or input your own.
